Countries that pay the most for energy consumption
European households spend the most on energy in the world. In the visualcapitalist ranking, which included a total of 66 countries, 15 of the top 20 countries are located in Europe. (Note: Data on energy costs includes the costs of electricity, gas, heating and other fuels used in the home, but does not include transportation costs.)
According to this ranking, Sweden has the highest expenditure on energy resources, with a per capita expenditure of $1,926 per year as of 2025, followed by Finland with $1,786 and Austria with $1,709. The top 10 countries with the highest expenditure on energy resources by per capita expenditure (average annual expenditure per person in 2025):

The United States ranked 16th in the ranking, with an average annual per capita expenditure of $1,042. The following countries spend the least on energy resources: Bolivia - $25; Algeria - $29; Egypt - $35. Georgia and its two neighboring countries - Armenia and Turkey - were included in the visualcapitalist ranking. Among 66 countries, Armenia ranks 48th in terms of household expenditure on energy resources, where one person pays $200 per year, Georgia ranks 51st with an expenditure of $143, and Turkey ranks 53rd with an expenditure of $135 per capita.
